Tortuguerro Part Six: Last Day

We stayed at Hotel Los Volcanes, which was a very nice B&B that we found by accident as we were driving through Alajeula looking for a hotel that the guidebook recommended. It's funny how things seem to work like that in Costa Rica. You start off looking for one thing and end up finding something cooler "by accident".

The setting of the hotel was lovely, given that it was in a Costa Rican city...which as I may have mentioned before tend to be dirty, smelly and not that safe. These flower pictures were taken in the courtyard where we had our breakfast on our last day:

Since we're on the subject of flowers, I thought it would be interesting to insert this comment. Here's a picture of my sister's hand with a hydrangea flower cluster that we found by the side of the road. Her hand is in the picture for a sense of scale. In Costa Rica, houseplants that we struggle to keep alive up here in North America are casually flourishing in spontaneous exuberance just "by the side of the road". It's really something to see.

Here's the view from the airport in San Jose of the volcano that defeated us. We had attempted to visit Volcan Poas, but the persistent rain and fog made it impractical from a visibility standpoint. Even down at (more or less) sea level by the airport you can see there's plenty of fog and cloud. Up on the volcano, it was impenatrable.

All in all though, it was a good trip, and I think we'll end up with a good final product for Johnny's business.
