Favorites

So, I've been going back through some of the pictures taken earlier in the year. Finding myself pleasantly surprised by how good some of them are (pats self on back), especially given that I was learning a brand new camera.

In Vancouver, there is a steamclock. For all I know, the only one of its kind. It does the "Westminster Chimes" (you've heard this if you've ever heard a grandfather clock chime the hour and quarter hour), but instead of bell tones, it uses a steam whistle, like an old fashioned coal-fired locomotive. At night, it's a pretty cool sight:

I also ran across a few of my "potty humor" shots.

Somebody (same somebody?) in both Vancouver and San Francisco had a similar sense of things regarding their graffiti vibe:

The image below was taken right at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. There was a bunch of construction going on, and these big signs were used for "educational" purposes, as well as to keep the unwashed masses out of the waterfront construction sites. You may have to click on this image to get a bigger one in order to read it properly:

No, it wasn't me, don't even think it.

Weddings

Man I've been busy.

This past weekend Karen and I were out in California for 5 days on an interview. (5 days ! ) Went well, waiting to hear. Caught a cold either on one of the many flights of the weekend or from that highly sanitized eatery, Jerusalem Garden. So yesterday I was a little sneezy and I could tell my nose was "off"...today it's full blown. >:-( Makes for a grumpy Rich. I don't do sick all that well.

Saturday on the weekend before last, Grace Balmer got married, and I went along with Christine Jones to take photos and learn. Some of them actually came out OK, as you can see below. Nice couple, non-traditional wedding. The wedding music was done by a couple of African guys, one of whom I had seen play at TC's Speakeasy in Ypsilanti. They were phenomenal. Hand drums and something like an African harp. When Grace was "processing" down the aisle, they were singing in their native tongue, and adding her name along with the playing. It was absolutely magical.

Sunday of that same weekend, I shot another wedding, but that will have to wait for another post.

And, THIS weekend, I'm shooting yet another wedding (Karen's cousin) and doing the videography as well. Ought to be an interesting test of our multitasking skills (or lack thereof...)

Here is Grace and her freshly minted groom "recessing":

Groomsmen were all in bare feet. Heh.

Holding hands during their vows:

The "ring shot":

Lovely bridesmaids, lovely dresses, lovely flowers...:

I thought they way they had done the dresses and flowers was phenomenal, striking, pretty, all that. I like this shot:

More to come.........stay tuned.
